How is Christian Aid responding: to the drought and to the refugees and internally displaced people?
Christian Aid is working through local partner organisations who are continuing their drought relief work in western Afghanistan. Christian Aid is also preparing to return its field office staff and other emergency staff to the region, supporting our partners by working in Pakistan, and Tajikistan and making preparations for programme work in Iran. They hope to return to Herat as soon as possible. Our partner response currently includes the following: • The Agency for Rehabilitation and Energy Conservation Afghanistan (AREA) will get food to 1,200 farmers to help them through to harvest, and seed to plant in the hope that there will be a harvest in 2002. • The Rural Rehabilitation Agency for Afghanistan (RRAA) is also working with displaced people in Badghis and Herat provinces, providing food, shelter and hygiene items, as well as food and seed to farmers who are able to stay in their villages. • Co-ordination of Humanitarian Assistance (CHA) aims to provide much needed health care, b
