How is chloral hydrate given?
Chloral hydrate is a sedation (drowsy) drug which is given as a drink. The doctor or nurse caring for your child will talk with you about how to help your child drink it. It can take between 5 minutes to 30 minutes for your child to become drowsy. If you can it is very helpful for you to stay with your child to comfort and settle them during the procedure. Please ask staff at the time of the procedure if this is possible.
