How is child support and child custody determined?
Tennessee statutes have established a set of guidelines to determine the amount of child support to be provided by either one or both parents. There is no presumption in Tennessee that either parent is more suited than the other to obtain custody of the child. The court will determine custody based on the best interests of the child. The court will consider all relevant factors such as the emotional ties between the parents and the child, and the ability of each parent to provide for the child.
