How is cattle and poultry USUALLY slaughtered in the United States?

The ignorance in these answers is astounding! Cattle are stunned and then a steel slug is shot into their brain. It is indeed the most humane way. Sorry, I know to most that is an oxymoron but the fact is they are killed and humans will continue to consume them. The legitimate slaughter houses treat the cattle humanely as it is in their best interest, i.e. $$$, to do so. Stressed cattle makes for less money. And they do NOT want the cattle to be sick. There are government inspectors on site at all times, not to mention government veterinarians. Notice the word “government” meaning these are officials NOT paid by the slaughter houses. Granted, as in anything, there will be exceptions to the rules. But that is simply a fact of life in all things.
