How is CARE working to help women in Myanmar after the cyclone?
CARE is actively encouraging women’s participation throughout the entire recovery program, ensuring there is space for them in each and every activity undertaken in the response. How is CARE encouraging women to be decision makers in the community? Each community group formed by CARE involves women. They assist in coordinating members of the community, assist with distribution activities, as well as provided monitoring and verbal reporting. CARE ensures there are at least one or two women, out of six to ten committee members. Specific women’s empowerment activities include forming women’s and children’s discussion groups and coordinating self-reliance groups that encourage women to share their issues and fears in a safe space with other women in similar circumstances.
