How is Candida spread within families?
The most common way that candida is spread in family is from mother to child through birth. When a child is in utero, their digestive tracts are completely sterile. They are supposed to pick up all of the beneficial bacteria they need in the birth canal from their mom and in breast milk. However, if the mom doesn’t have very many beneficial bacteria to give because they are loaded up with candida, the baby sees very little protective beneficial flora and a lot of yeast on the way out. Compound that with giving antibiotics early in life and the baby is set up for a candida problem. Caesarean section births have the same problem since the baby receives nothing from the mother. It is usually difficult for people to pass candida back and forth if everyone is healthy. However, if someone’s immune system becomes low then it is possible to pick candida up more easily from someone who has it. Husbands and wives can pass candida back and forth because of the intimate nature of the relationship;
