How is CAENs wireless network improved with IEEE 802.11n?
With the deployment of IEEE 802.11n wireless access points, overall wireless coverage is being improved across campus. A few reasons for this include: • CAEN is deploying twice the number of access points as it has in the past. • IEEE 802.11n uses a different signal technology that improves range and throughput. IEEE 802.11n is different than previous standards, because it operates in two different frequency ranges. It runs in the 2.4 GHz unlicensed band like IEEE 802.11g and 802.11b do, and it also operates in the 5.8 GHz unlicensed band like IEEE 802.11a does. The 2.4 GHz band provides better penetration of walls, and therefore better range. The 5.8 GHz band provides more capacity (double of 2.4 GHz today) for higher speed connections. CAEN will be providing 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11n coverage wherever the CAEN wireless network is available. These connections will provide up to 144 Mb/s of bandwidth to the access point. In addition, CAEN will be providing the 5.8 GHz coverage with a priori
