How is buprenorphine prescribed and dispensed?
Buprenorphine is prescribed by physicians and generally dispensed at pharmacies like other medications. In the United States, federal law has been amended to allow registered physicians to prescribe buprenorphine for maintenance – the first time outside of experimental and exempted programs it has been possible for physicians in the U.S. to maintain opioid addicts since 1919.
