How is Black Oxide Applied to Products?
The configuration of the product, and the delicacy required in handling determines how the product would be processed. Electrical rotating tumblers are often used for small parts such as washers, screws, key stock, pins, and nuts, where dimensional tolerances are not critical and the products would not be damaged from the tumbling. Products such as die components, fixture blocks, larger bushings, machined plates, and the like are generally suspended by rods through a large basket to avoid damage. Bulk products, such as round handles, sections of pipe, and other cylindrical and round products are usually placed in baskets, provided they will have very small contact points in order to receive a consistent black finish. There are many variations of products that receive Black Oxide treatment, and each product must be evaluated to determine the best method of processing.
