How is Balsa wood processed?
The trees are harvested and taken to the saw mill, where the raw Balsa is first rough cut into large boards, then carefully kiln dried, and finally packed into bales for export and further processing. The shipment arrives in Melbourne where it is further processed at our factory in Oakleigh. The rough sawn material is cut into sheets and sticks. Other items such as light weight aeroplane kits and boats are ideal for Balsa wood. As the wood can easily be cut and fashioned to any designed shape, it is now discovered by the craft enthusiast. Other uses for Balsa wood are insulation, boat hull strengthening, noise suppression and Malibu surfboards.
