How is ARKIVIO® auto-stor different from Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) technologies?
HSM has not been widely adopted in the storage industry because of its increased complexity in large enterprise environments, since IT administrators must manually configure each dedicated HSM server as a pre-defined source and destination device and migration rules can not be shared between multiple HSM servers. ARKIVIO® auto-stor does utilize some aspects of HSM, such as tag or link migration to minimize impact to users and applications. However, ARKIVIO® auto-stor is significantly more comprehensive than legacy HSM products.
