How is an unhealthy diet related to osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis is largely caused by excessive mineral drainage from a person’s bones. Unhealthy diet, inactivity, smoking, alcohol and stress are all factors that cause bone mineral loss. Dietary problems, such as too much protein from animal sources such as meat and dairy products, high salt, sugar, coffee and alcohol intake, combined with a low dietary calcium intake, can cause a negative calcium balance in the bones.
