How is an adenovirus infection diagnosed?
In addition to a complete medical history and physical examination, diagnostic tests for adenoviruses may include: • blood work • respiratory secretions – a nasal swab is obtained and respiratory secretions are tested for adenovirus by culture or a rapid antigen test. • stool culture • chest x-ray – a diagnostic test which uses invisible electromagnetic energy beams to produce images of internal tissues, bones, and organs onto film.
