How is Alzheimer Diagnosed?
The only test that can confirm Alzheimer’s at the moment is an autopsy, which will show the characteristic brain shrinkage and neuron destruction. Therefore, Alzheimer’s is diagnosed through a process of elimination that includes family history, a mental and physical assessment, a neurological examination and lab tests and brain scans. This diagnostic process is usually 80 – 90% accurate.
