How is alimony structured in Texas?
The Texas Legislature passed the “alimony” statute in 1995. It is defined as spousal maintenance under the Family Code & is limited to a 3 years after the Final Decree of Divorce, unless a spouse is unable to work because of a physical or mental disability. There are certain statutory prerequisites that must be satisfied before a Judge may grant spousal maintenance.
