How is advocacy different from lobbying?
Like marketing/advertising, lobbying is a component part of the overall action of advocacy. Again, using Webster’s definition, lobbying is activity aimed at influencing public officials on issues of legislation. Advocacy has a much broader audience but often utilizes lobbying activities to promote or oppose public policy. If used inappropriately, lobbying can do more harm to an advocacy effort than good. Advocacy Strategies can determine the best time and strategy to initiate a lobbying component to an advocacy campaign.
