How is a wreath to be blessed at Mass?
The “Book of Blessings” includes an “Order for the Blessing of an Advent Wreath” on the first Sunday of Advent in the church. There are several options: during Mass, during Liturgy of the Word or during evening prayer. The liturgical guidelines are basic: 1. The wreath should be large enough that it is visible to the congregation. 2. It should not interfere with the celebration of Mass; nor should it obscure the altar, lectern or presider’s chair.
