How is a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery Performed?
This procedure is performed laparoscopically. Here is the process in a simplified form. * First step. The surgeon makes multiple micro incisions in the stomach. * Second step. A viewing canola is inserted into an incision. * Third step. A miniature surgical video camera is set in place inside the area so the surgeon can view the area on a screen. * Third step. The surgeon inserts micro laparoscopic tools to remove part of the stomach. Part of the digestive system that is removed is responsible for producing hormones (Ghrelin). This is the hormone that produces hunger signals. * Fifth step. Approximately, 50 to 60 percent of the stomach is surgically removed. * Sixth step. The remaining portion resembles a larger tube. This remaining portion of the stomach is bonded together, and staples are used to ensure a full strong bond. * Seventh Step. The surgeon will perform various tests to insure the surgery has been a success.
