How is a Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC) Treated?

A VSC is treated with a chiropractic adjustment. The chiropractor will evaluate your horses’ posture, gait and muscle tone. Next, the chiropractor will perform what is called motion palpation. Motion palpation allows the chiropractor to gently take a joint through its normal range of motion. This allows the chiropractor to determine the areas to the spine and extremities that are not moving appropriately. Once the areas that are restricted in their motion are identified, the chiropractor will take the joint to tension and apply a short, quick thrust. The joint that is being adjusted is never taken out of its normal range of motion. The purpose is to restore the normal motion of the joint as well as to allow the peripheral nerves to fire in an appropriate manner.
