How is a substitution reaction different from an addition reaction?
In an addition reaction one of the molecules will retain all it’s atoms and will gain 1 or more atoms from another molecule. A substitution reaction is where the molecules have atoms that are replaced by atoms from the other molecules in the reaction. On a side note for these reactions, a catalyst use in these reactions is a molecule that is needed for the reaction but remains the same (no loss, gain or substitution of atoms)..
