How is a students dependency status determined and can it be changed?

0

Students are deemed dependent by FAFSA standards if they are unable to answer yes to any one question in section 2 – Student Dependency Status on the FAFSA. Such a student may be reclassified as independent if our office approves a dependency appeal for the student based upon the demonstration of an irretrievable breakdown in the student-parent relationship. Additional information in regards to this process can be found at Special Circumstances: Dependency Appeals.
