How is a second major different from the area of concentration?
In addition to completing the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences General Education requirements, every journalism major must complete a second major or a second area of concentration outside the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Study in the second major or concentration area enables students to acquire a substantial body of knowledge, learn how another discipline views the world, and / or develop a companion set of skills to those in journalism and mass communication. If a J-School major decides to choose a second major rather than an area of concentration they will work with an advisor in the chosen department to make sure that they fulfill all requirements. The assigned journalism advisor will make sure that the student has declared that major and is working with an advisor in that major, but they will not be responsible for that second major.
