How is a rabid raccoon recognized?
There is no documented means of identifying a rabid raccoon, however, the following should lead one to believe that the animal may be infected: the raccoon is active in the daytime, appears to have lost its sense of balance, has numerous bite marks around the face, has a very unkept and scruffy appearance, and makes unusual sounds similar to the sound of a hurt or distressed cat. Such animals should be reported to the police and/or your local animal control authorities.
