How is a part time workers holiday entitlement calculated?
Part time workers are entitled to the same holidays as full time workers, calculated on a pro rata basis. For example, an employee who works four days a week is entitled to 22.4 days’ paid holiday – their normal working week multiplied by 5.6. An employee only works during term time. How much extra leave will they get? You need to work out how many hours the employee works on average over the whole year. For example, if the employee works 40 hours a week for 40 weeks of the year, they work a total of 1,600 hours a year. This works out at 34.48 hours a week over 46.4 weeks of the year (the 5.6 weeks of statutory holiday entitlement are excluded from the average working week calculations).
