How is a Naturopathic doctor different from a Naturopath?

There is much public confusion over this topic and this is why state licensure efforts are of utmost importance. Licensure provides a clear distinction between a thoroughly trained, qualified primary care Naturopathic Doctor who has received extensive medical training and a “lay” Naturopath, who has received training by either apprenticeship or through a short ‘by mail’ program. California currently provides licensure for Naturopathic Doctors (N.D.’s), but does not for Naturopaths.
