How is a letter of support different from a letter of commitment?
In letters of support, certain people in your community write letters that simply state that they believe your proposed program is worth doing. They believe that there is a need for your program and that you can implement it successfully with great benefit to your community. With letters of commitment, your collaborative partners not only state their belief in the program but how they plan to be an integral part of it as well as support it with in-kind gifts, funds, and staff. They declare their involvement, commitment, and tangible support. The first letter says, “Yes, I’m in favor of this program.” The second letter says, “This program is needed, and I plan to commit my organization’s staff, funds, services, and products to ensure its success.” Both letters are valuable, but it’s easy to see why funders require letters of commitment from your partners!
