How is a GALs role different from a CASAs?
A GAL and CASA have the same role, to advocate for the best interests of the children they are appointed to represent. A CASA is a volunteer while a GAL may be a state employee or a contractor with the state. A CASA typically has only one or two children on his caseload while a GAL may have as many as one hundred. Staff GALs serve as mentors for CASA volunteers as they advocate for children during the life of a case.
