How Is a Disability Onset Date Determined in Case of Postpolio Sequelae?
A disability onset date in cases involving postpolio sequelae is set based on the individual’s allegations, his or her work history, and the medical and other evidence concerning impairment severity. Generally, the new problems associated with postpolio sequelae are gradual and non-traumatic, but acute injuries or events, such as herniated discs, or broken bones from falls, may be markers for establishing a disability onset date.
