How is a colonoscopy done and what is the nursing care?
You’re given laxatives to take before the procedure, usually the night before, and then the morning of the colonoscopy. This is the worst bit, as they taste horrible and you have to keep rushing to the loo. Just remembering it makes me go squeamish!!! During the actual procedure you’re given sedatives and painkillers, so you’re quite drowsy and don’t feel a thing. They put a tube with a camera on it into your bum, and slide it through you’re bowels, and they see it all on a big screen. You’re then taken into recovery after, where you rest for a little bit, and then go home.
