How is a co-op different from a fraternity/sorority or dormitory?

We are somewhere between the two, owned by the University but governing house affairs and doing all the housework ourselves – which significantly reduces the cost of living. Like a Greek house, we are smaller group of students who live, eat, sleep, and study together. Unlike them, anyone can be a member – no initiation or organization to pledge to. Like a dormitory, there are people from far and wide, but not so many that you become just another face in the crowd. This house is meant to feel like and become a home.
