How is a childs spelling progress determined?
A. A child’s progress is determined by weekly spelling tests and by accurately using the spelling words in written sentences that demonstrate word meanings. Each month, students are tested on the Morrison-McCall Spelling Scale. During ILA 1, teachers are trained to analyze individual student progress as well as that of the entire class. Page 189-190 in The Writing Road to Reading explains how to use these tests to track student progress and determine how to adjust instruction.
