How involved was toy manufacturer Hasbro? Did they contribute to the script?
Di Bonaventura: Well yes and no is the answer. What’s great about Hasbro is that all the people that work there are real fanatics for the brand. They are hardcore Joe fans that are working on it, and as a filmmaker, I’m always trying to reach the hardcore fans, to say ‘What do you think about this? What do you think about that?’ To get a sense of if we are going on the right track or the wrong track. So you have someone with a vested interest, and who has a great long experience, and that is actually the perfect combination, because they take their answers very seriously when you ask those questions. IGN: Do they come forward with a new toy-line that you have to include? Di Bonaventura: No, it’s not like that. You don’t really need to when you look at the movie. You’ve got all these characters, you’ve got tonnes of gadgets. It’s sort of a misnomer that people think of it as a toy movie. It’s a comic book movie.
