How important will same-sex marriages be as an issue in this years presidential election?
Allard: It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if it becomes the No. 1 social issue in this particular election. It seems to be picking up in support throughout America. This is a universal issue, and with each decision by the courts and the more coverage it gets, the stronger the input we are getting. Each time the president comments, it seems like he is coming closer and closer to endorsing the amendment I introduced. Q: What happens next? Allard: Everyone is watching very closely to see what’s happening in Massachusetts. May 17 is a key date. That’s when they say you can have a same-sex marriage in Massachusetts. Q: How do you predict this will be resolved? Matthew Daniels, Alliance for Marriage founder and president: There is going to be a uniform national definition of marriage. The folks behind the lawsuits to destroy the states’ marriage laws are determined to achieve that result. The federalism angle comes down to a simple question: Whether the national definition of marriage wil
