How important is this collegiate program to Arizona boys volleyball at the prep and club level?
Speer: “It gives them something to work for. When they see the level we’re playing at, it’ll raise the level of kids out there. I’ve already seen it. I’ve been to (club) tournaments not only locally but also in California. It has also raised awareness of Arizona volleyball and the type of player we have. College coaches are now watching Arizona players and Arizona (club) teams a little more.” Zotovich: “Pretty much the only way that we (prep boys volleyball players) knew how to get noticed by colleges before Grand Canyon was to play in (out-of-state club tournaments). That’s basically the only time when coaches will get to see you. They don’t even think about taking a trip to Arizona – they won’t even touch the ground here – with all the talent in California.” Chris, you’ve been out of high school for a while.
