How important is the location to get the best results for reducing noise?
The location does affect performance, with the noise reduction function associated with locations farther back. A couple helmet manufacturers are molding in a similarly shaped ridge about 6 inches behind the top of the helmet and they advertise that it is for wind noise reduction (no mention of buffeting reduction). The original intention of the strips was to reduce wind buffeting. The reduction in wind noise comments have come primarily from independent magazine reviews. Many purchasers have reported that they do reduce noise. Obviously if the wind noise is coming from some area other than the outer surface of the helmet, the strip won’t fix it.
