How important is observed, supervised teaching practice?
Teaching practice is very important for you to feel more confident especially when you are new to the ESL/ESOL field. Employers prefer new graduates to have some teaching experience after graduating from a TESOL course. Most importantly, if you are taking our Certificate in the Theory and Methodology of TESOL and you are applying for the TESL Canada Professional Certificate Standard 2, the teaching practice module of 10 hours of observation and 10 hours of supervised teaching practice is compulsory to obtain the certificate. It is also important to clarify that the teaching practice hours must be completed in Canada, either in our school in Toronto, or in any TESL Canada course provider. If you do not live in Canada and are not interested in the TESL Canada Professional Certificate Standard 2 but would like to complete the practicum module, then teaching practice is available to all course participants through the ACTDEC Teaching Portfolio Scheme.
