How important is it to teach children table manners these days?
I think it’s terrible these days that simple things like proper table manners are ignored. My children are 5, 4, and 2 (and we have a 10-month-old) and the older 3 are already well-versed in proper table manners. The older two even take turns setting the table and they are able to place the fork, knife and spoon all in the correct places. When you teach your children about manners at the table, they are more likely to be well-mannered in other situations and to be respectful in other situations. My husband and I don’t tolerate things such as burping or being loud or being rude at the table. They are excused if they behave in such a manner. And one of the nicest things is when we eat out, we always get tons of compliments on how well-mannered they are. EDIT: I think that when they eat at your house, they should be expected to behave a certain way. If that means you teach them how, great. Grandparents are allowed to teach children things, people. Good grief, I hope my parents pass on goo
