How important is it to include safety in an organizational mission statement?
According to the participants’ feedback, the leadership interviewed believes the success of the safety and health program could be attributed to the mission driven statement developed by the company after the arrival of Mr. Sell, Vice President of Safety and Administration who was hired to address the issue of workplace injuries. New leadership’s first goal was to create a new mission statement. This mission statement was expanded to include the commitment to safety. Before the arrival of Mr. Sell the mission statement previously focused on building relationships with our clients and did not state the employee’s role in the mission of the company. The mission now reads as follows: Century Construction, Inc. is a team of construction professionals dedicated to quality workmanship which will foster on-going relationships with clients in the industrial and commercial markets.
