How important is it to have passed the fundamentals of engineering (FE) exam?
For an engineer of the right age, it’s very important. You’ll be asked (until you’re old enough to look & act seasoned) if you took it. Then you’ll usually be asked if you passed. Part of the interview with my first employer was doing an FE practice test they had, and getting it graded (4hr). They had some pretty high standards. The lesson they had learned is that you can get out of engineering school without “getting it”. On paper, its tough to see who these guys are. For foreigners without a ton of job experience and a degree from a place we’ve never heard of, having passed the FE test is about good as an American degree (in my book). It’s a baseline that you can’t really beat or fake. Otherwise you may be taking a chance. You asked about engineering techology degrees yesterday. Here’s an illustration of what these things are worth: I knew an old experienced mechanical engineer who had gotten an engineering technology degree back in the day. He took the FE…and 5 years later had tak
