How important is “experience” as a decommoditizing factor within the professional services sector?
With the flattening of the World comes increased competition and a renewed focus on decommoditization. Many have argued, including Joseph Pine and James H. Gilmore in their book “The Experience Economy,” that experience should become the primary driver in a company or individual’s efforts to decommoditize a good or service. Yet, in today’s economy in the US individuals and businesses are facing higher prices and, in many cases, less cash on hand. This economy fosters a price-driven buying structure where experience often takes a back seat to price.
