HOW IMPORTANT IS DHEA?
Considered to be another key element in anti-aging medicine, DHEA is a precurser to many beneficial steroids within the human body (including estrogen and testosterone). Studies show that DHEA provides a multitude of health benefits, including: increasing immune function; increasing the body’s ability to fight bacterial, parasitic and viral infections (including HIV), helps fight chronic inflammation (which helps prevent heart disease, Alzheimer’s and certain types of cancer), protects brain tissue during stroke or trauma damage, protects the kidneys from the damage caused by high blood sugar, helps protect the thymus against cortisol-induced atrophy, significantly increases the levels of beta-endorphins, improves well-being and the libido. Low levels of DHEA are associated with aging and disease. Deficiencies of DHEA have been found to correlate with immune dysfunction, inflammation, higher risk of certain cancers, heart disease in males and osteoporosis.
