How important is dewatering (process of removing water from oil) anyway?
As already mentioned, water droplets in a fuel tank is not a good thing. But is the whole process of dewatering oil blown out of proportion? From our own personal experience, we believe so. If you get too tied up with all the dewatering hype, you are bound to never want to deal with WVO as an alternative fuel. After all, we know of countless WVO users (including our own vehicles) who only occasionally dewater their waste oil and have traveled 6 digit grease miles without any engine defect that is directly attributable to water reaching their engine. So how much damage is really being caused as a result of microscopic water particles reaching an engine then? Well, speaking from a mechanical point of view, there are many factors that contribute to an engine’s deterioration over hundreds of thousands of miles (e.g. not replacing oil at recommended mileage, stretched/worn engine belts, bad spark plugs, etc.).
