How important are the separate histories and how do they affect the current politics of Northern Ireland?
They are very important to every person. Everyones culture and the culture is altogether the problem. It is that they are separate and what we really want to do is make sure that they come together. And what we have felt in the Alliance and one of the reasons we have set up, we felt that we should be recognizing diversity as a strength not as a weakness, and not as something that will divide us but that as something that will bring us together. To recognize and tolerate other peoples histories and cultures and traditions, so basically, they are very important. They play a big a part. The troubles are not just born out of religion, they were born out of culture, out of tradition and they are all mixed together. And all are playing their part, and at the moment what we want to do is use those to bring us together.
