How important are GCSE qualifications?

The School of Medicine requires that all applicants for medicine from CFG0 have achieved a grade C or above in Maths GCSE prior to starting the CFG0 course. You should also be aware that school leavers applying to Leeds School of Medicine are required to have at least 6 grade Bs including the following: • English • Maths • Dual Science or Chemistry and Biology On completion of CFG0 you would be in competition for places with school leavers offering very high grades at GCSE and A level. If your GCSE grades are low then you would need to explain why and provide evidence of any mitigating circumstances. It is a particular concern if your Maths and Science GCSE grades are low because this raises doubts about your academic abilities in these key subjects. If you have been out of education for a very long time and gained many years experience in professional, healthcare or other roles then you may still be accepted for CFG0.
