How important are development plans to employees job satisfaction?
While we have some clear work to do, we believe in the future Yale employees should have three core entitlements. One is a well thought through annual performance appraisal assessing the results achieved against their various goals and objectives. Another is ongoing “instant feedback” or coaching given by their manager as they do things well or do things that might be further improved. The third is an individually tailored development plan which defines the one or two actions they will work on during the coming year with their manager to assure they continue to progress to their maximum performance and advancement potential. It is worth stressing that having individual development plans does not mean that every employee gets shipped off to a training course each year.
