How I remember medical word parts?
It sounds like you just have an alphabetical listing of word parts, which is not the ideal way to learn these, but it can be done. Normally you would learn them according to their placement in the terms… Prefixes begin the terms, as in audi/o/logy or audit/o/rium (audi- and audit- are prefixes) Suffixes end a term, as in an/acusis or hyper/acusis (-acusis is a suffix) Root terms name body parts and substances, and are found after prefixes and before suffixes, as in hyper/glyc/emia (glyc- is the root term) In the term presented in another post, cardi/ac, cardi- is a root term meaning heart, and -ac is a suffix meaning pertaining to, so the term means pertaining to the heart. Since you aren’t being taught the language, and just have to memorize alphabetical lists of the word parts, just group them by meaning when you can, and study a group of five until it is memorized, then go to the next group.
