How high is the preferred option planned to be?
The preferred option for the hospital on the Macquarie Point Railyards site has most of the hospital at 3 to 4 stories with basement car parking. The area containing the patient rooms is proposed to be higher at 5 stories with the option to expand to 6 in the future should more patient accommodation be required. The architects and engineers have designed the hospital such that almost all plant required is contained within the floor levels and not on the roof recognizing that it would result in an increase in building height and would not look attractive when viewed from the Cenotaph. The location of the higher section of the hospital has been carefully analysed and designed to obtain both optimal functionality for the hospital and maintain the important views to the site from Sullivans Cove and from the Cenotaph, minimising the impact of the hospital on these views.
