How high is Denver?
One of the steps of the State Capitol building is exactly one mile above sea level. Which one exactly? The phrase “One mile above sea level” was engraved on the 15th step in 1947. In 1969, engineering students as CSU determined that the original measurement was off by three steps and a brass marker was embedded in the 18th step. In 2002, based on new measurment calibrations conducted by the USGS, Colorado determined that the 13th step is more accurate and a new marker was installed in 2003. If you take a tour of Coors Field look for the row of purple seats (another mile high landmark) in the upper deck.
