Press ALT+F2 to open the Run dialog box and the type “gconf-editor” (without the quotes) and click on Run button. Then, search for the below key: apps\nautilus\desktop\ In the right side, deselect the “volumes_visible” checkbox. Now, the removable drive icons will be disappeared from the desktop. However, you can access it from the Computer icon or in the file browser.
