How heavy is a washing machine?
The average UK front-loading washing machine would weigh between 65 and 70kg. It’s reasonably easy to move between two people, although worth adding padding (to prevent damaging it or the house) if you’re moving it far, or getting a suitable trolley. Due to their weight it is very easy to accidentally damage the bottom corners of the machine, and also floor coverings like lino/vinyl. The bulk of the weight is the concrete mouldings which stop the drum wobbling too violently while spinning. Unfortunately these are often inadequate at today’s fastest spin speeds, and can also wear over time (leaing concrete dust beneath the machine). We have a basic Miele which is much more solidly built, with cast iron weights. It weighs 93kg and is very awkward to move due purely to the weight – although they do provide recesses to use as handles unlike most machines.
